Farm Worker
The USDA definition is: A “farm worker / agricultural worker” means an individual who derives, or prior to retirement or disability, derived a substantial portion of his/her income from agricultural employment in any of its branches. “Agricultural employment” means employed in the cultivation and tillage of the soil; the production, cultivation, growing and harvesting of any agricultural or horticultural commodities; the raising of livestock, bees, furbearing animals, or poultry; dairying, forestry and lumber operations; any work on a farm as incident to or in conjunction with such farming operations, including the delivery and preparation of commodities for market storage.
USDA Requirements for Farm Worker Households are: The household must work in agriculture and earn a minimum of $5,753.00 per year from agriculture or farm employment. Verification of legal status is required: birth certificate or Immigration card. Income verification is required: W-2 form from previous year, award letters for unemployment, TANF etc.
